Wigan Athletic Supporters Club have launched a frantic fundraiser in a quest to save the club from liquidation.
Wigan administrators have set a deadline of 31st August for the club to be sold.
They stated that if a buyer isn’t found before the deadline, they may not be able to start the season.
This has led to a crowd fundraising platform set up by the official supporters club.
Wigan hope to raise at least £500,000 by next Monday, via crowdfunding, to ensure the League One side’s future.
The English club had an awful spell in the Championship last season which saw them finished in 23rd position.
The fundraiser has attracted a couple of top sports personnel who have donated and also helped to get people to donate.
The one person who stood out was Chelsea’s defender, Reece James.
The young full-back went on loan from Chelsea to Wigan in the 2018/19 season.
The English defender had a successful loan spell which caught the eyes of the current manager, Frank Lampard.
Reece James made a £3000 donation to the fundraiser.
He also published a post on Instagram where he tagged and urged some other top sportsmen into donating to the fundraiser.
