Chelsea new signing Timo Werner suffered a likely ‘dead leg’ injury in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Brighton at the Amex last night.
Despite not being on the scoresheet, the German had a great game, and Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was pleased with what he saw from the debutant.
“I love the way he pops up in different areas,” Lampard told Chelsea.com.
“He’s not a frontman that attaches to centre-backs so much. He can start a little deeper but when he goes, he goes and we saw that with the burst of pace for the penalty.
“He has a real hunger to score goals and be ruthless in those areas and I think we saw a lot of signs from Timo tonight of what he’s going to bring.”
On Werner’s injury, the boss said.
“He [Werner] took a knock when we won the penalty, which we hope is a dead leg. I’d like to think if it is that then we have a bit of time to get him back for Liverpool.”
Chelsea’s next match is against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
