According to The Athletic, Chelsea could make a bid for 21-year-old English midfielder Declan Rice after the West London club secures the signature of Edouard Mendy.
The London giant have been very active in this summer transfer window after making five statement first-team signings.
The Blues are still looking to add a new goalkeeper and defensive midfielder to their first-team squad.
Top of the list of goalkeeper targets is 28-year-old Rennes goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.
According to latest reports by Di Marzio as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Rennes have accepted Chelsea’s latest bid for the French goalkeeper.
The new bid from Chelsea for Edouard Mendy has been accepted by Rennes: here we go! Deal to be completed on next days, the goalkeeper is ready to fly to London and he’ll have medicals soon. After Mendy, Chelsea will target £80m-rated Declan Rice.
Though not a top priority, Frank Lampard will be looking to add a new defensive midfielder to his Blue Army according to Simon Johnson.
I’ve just posted this on @TheAthleticUK’s new Real Time function on the app. Just affirming situation again: After Mendy, #CFC will still try to make one more signing & that’s a defensive midfielder. No 1 target is Declan Rice, who is also seen as someone to play at the back.

And top of the shortlist is 21-year-old Westham star, Declan Rice.
Having played for Chelsea in the Academy when little, the Englishman is reported to fancy a move back to Chelsea.
But Westham valuation of Declan Rice might be a stumbling block for Chelsea in the race for the midfielder.
The West London club believe they can negotiate a lower price with West Ham for Declan Rice just like they did in Chilwell and Havertz deal.
