Chelsea Legend Branislav Ivanovic is set for a surprise return to the Premier League as the 36-year-old look to sing a deal with West Brom in the coming hours.

Ivanovic could seal a return to the Premier League in the next 48 hours ahead of West Brom’s season opener against Leicester on Sunday.

The 36 year old is viewed as a legend in Chelsea’s recent history after winning three league titles, three FA Cups, the Champions League and Europa League during a richly successful nine-year spell.

Ivanovic is a free agent after leaving Zenit St Petersburg at the end of last season.

And West Brom are hopeful of persuading him to sign a short-term deal until the end of the season to add some experience to Slaven Bilic’s squad.

West Brom view the addition of Ivanovic as crucial to their season, as he will bring vast experience and know-how to the dressing room and around the training ground.

With no transfer fee required, a deal is seen as free of risk and should be concluded in the next few days if an agreement is reached on wages.

West Brom are also hopeful of signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan next after Ivanovic.

Gallagher was close to joining Crystal Palace earlier this month but a deal now appears off, with West Brom now in talks to sign him.
